The Historical Municipal Museum is an archaeological, pioneering museum of the museums prieguenses, that was created in 1983. His current headquarters, in the Cultural Center Adolfo Lozano Sidro, are provisional, the movement of the institution having been projected to a definitive headquarters in the acquaintance as Mill of the Montoro, closely together of the castle of the city. In the museum also one finds the headquarters of the Municipal Service of Archaeology, which from 1989 manages the rich archaeological heritage prieguense, with numerous actions.
The archaeological excavations realized by the institution, both in the urban area and in the territory, and the donation of some particular collections, have been increasing significantly the funds of the museum, especially the prehistoric and medieval collections. In the future, Marcos Campos will enable a section of Ethnography, based on the collection, one of the most important of Andalusia.
The space visitable of the museum reformed by last time in 2005-2006, is distributed in four more rooms a court column do, following a chronological conventional arrangement from the Paleolithic up to the Middle Ages.
