The production area covered by the Designation of Origin "Lucena" was historically included in the call by Roman Baetica, where were supplied olive oil for the metropolis. The geographical area comprising the Denomination of Origin "Lucena" is located south of the province of Córdoba and comprises 10 municipalities. This area covers a total area of 126,747 ha, of which 72,438.44 ha, engaged in olive growing. The varieties are: Hojiblanca, Arbequí-na, Picual, Lechín, Tempranilla, Ocal, Campanile and Chorrúo.
