The origin of the veneration of the Cross in Añora dates back to the sixteenth century, and it is believed that the custom of wearing crosses was offered as a religious thanks. Although the roots have been eminently religious, from the beginning it has highlighted its festive and popular character.
At present, the Party of the Cross, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of Andalusia, is an exaltation to nature and celebrates the entrance of May.
Throughout the night of the veil, which coincides with the Saturday of the first weekend of May, the gangs of friends, young and old, whole families, go through the town visiting all the crosses they have dressed. Throughout the night there is a great bustle of people and songs are heard throughout the town.
